The Neubie is distinct from a TENS unit. Its uniqueness lies in its use of direct current and other specific technical features.
By employing direct current (DC) instead of alternating current (AC), the Neubie enhances the potential for neuromuscular re-education and better neurophysiological function. When a TENS unit or other conventional e-stim device is increased, patients often experience protective co-contractions that lead to inefficient movement patterns, reducing the intervention's effectiveness. The Neubie's distinctive waveform helps minimize these protective contractions and delivers higher levels of sensory, or afferent, input.
There is also some evidence suggesting that DC can aid in tissue healing and repair. While the AC signal in traditional devices generates electric fields that frequently change direction, direct current maintains an electric field in a single direction for an extended period. This electric field can align—and potentially boost—the activity of cells involved in repairing and regenerating various tissues, including bone, muscle, and connective tissue.
In addition to using direct current, the Neubie’s waveforms are designed to decrease resistance and skin irritation, as well as the discomfort linked to electric charge buildup, which is common with traditional direct current devices.
