When a TENS unit or other conventional e-stim device is increased, patients often experience protective co-contractions that lead to inefficient movement patterns, reducing the intervention's effectiveness. The Neubie's distinctive waveform helps minimize these protective contractions and delivers higher levels of sensory, or afferent, input.

There is also some evidence suggesting that DC can aid in tissue healing and repair.
