Three-phase power will be required when installing an electric cryo chamber. So what is three-phase power, how does it work, do I need it, and how do you know if you have it or not?
DO I NEED THREE-PHASE POWER FOR THE ELECTRIC CRYO CHAMBER?
Three-phase power will be required when installing an electric cryo chamber, the reason being:
- The load for the three-phase power to the electrical cabinet/cryo chamber has a starting amp draw of 65.5amps. This happens once daily in the morning for a millisecond.
- The actual rating of the appliance is 16.36 kW (The maximum power of 32 amps with 400V and 50Hz)
- Requirements = 26 KVA
WHAT IS THREE-PHASE POWER?
Three-phase power is a three-wire AC (alternating current) power circuit. Each phase, meaning the voltage on each wire is 120 degrees apart. Allowing to generate high voltages for transmission and distribution, giving high efficiency. While commercial and industrial facilities usually use a three-phase supply, residential homes are usually served by a single-phase power supply.
WHAT IS THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN THREE-PHASE POWER AND SINGLE-PHASE POWER?
Three-phase will have three active wires (100amp fuses) with one neutral wire that is usually supplied to commercial facilities and can also be supplied to residential premises (depending on its cause for use). Single-phase will only have one active wire (fuse) with one neutral wire that is usually supplied to your home.
HOW DO I KNOW IF I HAVE A THREE-PHASE POWER SUPPLY?
Looking at your electrical fuse supply you will be able to see if you have a single-phase (one wire) or three-phase (three wires) being supplied to the premises.
